BC Confidential: Navigations Of A Newcomer
September 5, 2003

Sup fellow freshmen? My name is Brendan Colt and I'm just trying to get used to my first semester here at BC without losing my mind. I'm sure a lot of you know the feeling. So far I'm finding it a bit confusing, but overall very cool. I mean it beats the heck out of freshman year in high school what with the raging acne, homicidal seniors and no ::cough:: soft drinks on Friday nights.

My classes are shaping up to be pretty interesting. I used the PEPs to get the scoop on all the coolest professors and according to my Classmate Roster on Agora, a kid I met at orientation is in writing seminar with me. I'll have plenty of time between classes to grab a bite to eat on most days. I really like the wraps they have in the Eagle's Nest but I just can't seem to find "The Rat", another one of the Dining Halls that I hear all the upperclassmen talking about. You'd think it'd be easy but apparently I have to crawl through a secret underground tunnel and give some sacred scrolls to the "key master" just to get a cheeseburger and some hash browns.

I'm really looking forward to getting involved, and I hear there are about a million Clubs at BC so there's gotta be one that will spark my interests. Someone told they would all have table set up for activities day so I'm definitely going to check that out. I feel like I'm bombarded by all these different acronyms, there's UGBC, MLP, ALA, LTS, FYE, and so many others. One of the guys on my hall can't stop talking about the Mentoring Leadership Program, one of the Leadership Organizations. At least I don't have to hear him brag about living in an on-campus house like the Shaw kids. Really, I don't mind living on Newton. Sure, taking the Bus everyday back and forth from class every day takes up a little extra time, but hey, you can't beat Stuart.

I have crazy amounts of reading for one of my classes but the work isn't that hard and there are plenty of places to study on campus. So far I've only been to O'Neill library but my roommate said that he went to Bapst and it was the quietest place he'd ever seen. I mean he could actually hear a senior's brain vessel implode after an all day cram session for the LSATs. Yeah, there are a few other Libraries scattered around campus but none of them has a live Webcam staked out on top of it like O'Neill. I love to check those things out, I mean it gets kind of boring procrastinating on just AIM all of the time.

All in all I'd have to say that I pretty much forgot everything they told me at orientation but things have managed to work themselves out but if I do have a question, I have UGBC.org and the ODSD offices. Pretty soon I'll be going on the 48 Hours Retreat for freshmen. Everyone says it's an awesome experience, I'll just have to see for myself. Well I'm off, mandatory floor meeting with my RA, you know how that goes. Take it easy my fellow freshmen, cya later.
