AHANA Leadership Academy

AHANA Leadership Academy

The AHANA Leadership Academy provides training, resources, and advice to emerging AHANA leaders. Members of ALA have the opportunity to address all aspects of life on campus, as the AHANA Leadership Council, of which ALA is a part, is a semi-autonomous branch of the undergraduate government. The ALC exists to uplift the community socially, politically, and academically, and members of ALA will have a part in helping to live up to the ALC mission. Members are also part of an extensive mentorship program, complete with a well-balanced set of responsibilities that will help them to become versatile students and people.

Freshmen in ALA participate in informative workshops, with topics that include planning, officiating, fundraising and developing interpersonal professional relationships. In addition to seminars, students adapt their skills to the specific needs of their department. Each ALA member is invited and encouraged to develop and initiate their own program and forum. In order to build the cohesive unit that is necessary for leaders to develop, ALA sponsors group dinners to allow time for reflections of the program and student bonding. The application will be available at UGBC.org/ALC in September 2010.

The discussions we had at ALA meetings enriched my understanding of different AHANA issues on campus and what it means to be an AHANA student leader here at BC. It was a great gateway for me to learn more about my culture and to get involved on campus.
